Surah Al Qamar, 49
“Verily, for all things has Allah appointed a due proportion”
Surah At Talaaq, 3
The Holy Quran displays unique phenomenon and every element of it is mathematically woven into its own unique masterpiece - the surahs, verses, words, letterings, sentence, the number of certain letters, the number of words from the same root, the number and divine names, the unique spelling of certain words, certain letters within certain words, certain ayats within certain numbers and vice versa etc.
The Arabic lettering in itself is like a wonderful hidden messages in which every thread is woven by a loving and merciful Creator, placed side by side upon another thread, held and carried by His purpose and intention, an interaction of reality and the intelligence that it induced, every connection made is interlaced into a timeless, sprawling web of divine measure like a ray of light that guides us to the truth and the reality of our existence. Each Abjad constitute its own unique shape and form its own meaning and purpose to teach man the nature of his true self is just breathtaking. It is with such an intricate arrangement that humbles my soul. It is a blueprint of such immense love that make me wept when I contemplate upon its hidden meaning.
Surah Al-A’laa, 2
“Every single thing is before His sight, in (due) proportion”
Surah Ar R’ad, 8
Arabic letterings has its own unique mathematical signature, the Abjad order of the Arabic alphabet called Hisab al-Jammal. They are a decimal alphabetic numeral system/alphanumeric code, in which the 28 letters of the Arabic alphabet are assigned numerical values. The abjad numbers are also used to assign numerical values to Arabic words for purpose of understanding the significance and miracles of the Holy Quran. Others used it as a numerology which is against the teachings of Tawhid.
'Ilm al-Huruf or the science of letters is a process of Arabic numerology whereby numerical values assigned to Arabic letters are added up to provide total values for words in the Quran. Used to infer meanings and reveal secret or hidden messages. [Definition is taken from oxford reference and oxford Islamic studies article]. In the Abjad system, the first letter of the Arabic alphabet, alif, is used to represent 1; the second letter, bāʾ, 2, up to 9. Letters then represent the first nine intervals of 10s and those of the 100s: yāʾ for 10, kāf for 20, qāf for 100, ending with 1000 - Wikipedia. Abjad numerals in Arabic are similar to the earlier alphanumeric codes of Hebrew gematria and Greek isopsephy. Gematrical is a universal system that was used where the letters of Arabic, Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek alphabets were used as numerical. This is so because there is language and wisdom in mathematics.
"I am the servant of the Holy Quran as long as I have life. I am the dust on the path of Muhammad, the chosen one" Rumi
"Maybe you are searching among the branches for what only appears in the roots" Rumi
It is sad to note that some of our scholars refuses to acknowledge the numerical values of Arabic alphabet or Hisab Al-Jamal saying that it was invented by people who wish to lead the ummah “way out of path.” I object the idea that mathematical value in the Arabic lettering is an innovation because it has led me to know my true identity, who am I, to where I am going and the purpose of my very own existence and the significance, miracles and beauty of the Holy Quran.
“Mathematics is the language with which God has written the universe” Galileo
Sofia Kovalevskaya
Galileo famously stated that our harmonic universe is a “grand book” written in the language of mathematics. The Holy Quran possesses mathematical harmony as well. The human body is molded by a Creator who is All Knowing All Perfect and has mathematical precision that provides the motion of the human body in the application of quantum mechanics. Mathematics are not just about numbers and equation displayed but a description of the truth about the objects of reality so that we can understand who we are. When it comes to understanding a certain surah, it is with the aid of its mathematical values that we can attain an understanding of its message.
“Allah is the light of the heaven and the earth” Surah An Nur, 35
“God used beautiful mathematics in creating the world” Paul Dirac
Physical matter must have mathematical beauty" Paul Dirac
Quantum physics reveal that physical light is omnipotent (powerful) omnipresent (everywhere present), omniscient (all-knowing). Light is consciousness, intelligence and awareness and the ummah generally don’t think much about it is truly devastating. Light possesses mathematical precision and has within itself the highest order function and efficiency. The universe and nature are blossoming with mathematical beauty and they are so remarkably accurate and precisely measured that you cannot see any flaw in its order, hence, everything flow unhindered and effortless.
Since nature and the universe are our mirror image in its law of pairs, its mathematical structure construct reveals to us that we are created with the same energy equation. Paul Dirac describes electron in a very precise equation and there is also an equation that describe magnetic moments. Our real self is revealed in the same manner since we are atoms, electron and protons and that we are whirled in it, we too have our own unique energy equation with its transcending magnetic moments. Allah swt has indeed honored us more than any other created things.
“We have honored the children of Adam” – just as this copper astrolabe reflects the movements of the heavens like a mirror, so the human being is the astrolabe of God” Rumi
When I look at the Holy Quran displaying its mathematical miracles, I saw a never seen before universe that exists inside our soul. It shows me how the human body is engineered to transform the soul into a great universe is truly a blessing. Mathematics is a language that has enabled mankind to make discoveries and there are reasons, logic, purpose, function and order underpins its precise measure, which must eventually serve us. They not only describe the patterns and structure in the cosmos and nature but also describe the pattern and structure He has pre-established mankind.
"Whatever message We abrogate or cause it to be forgotten, We bring one better than it or one like it" Surah Al Baqarah, 106
“Over it are 19” Surah Muddaththir, 30
For example, Surah Al Hadid reveals to us its mathematical miracle if we truly ponder upon its structure. Surah Al Hadid which is the 57th surah is the center of the Holy Quran. The Holy Quran possesses 114 surahs and when you divide it by half, the number is 57. Surah Al Hadid refers specifically to the creation of Iron. Iron-57 Metal (Iron-57) is a stable isotope of iron. The center of the earth is a ball of iron and its temperature is 5700 kelvin, almost as hot as the surface of the sun.
If you count the numerical value (Hisab Al Jamal) in the abjad of Al Hadid, the value is:
Al – 30 + 1 = 31
Hadid – 4 + 10 + 4 + 8 = 26
26 + 31 = 57
It is impossible to contemplate hidden meanings of the verses of the Holy Quran unless it is calculated using Hisab Al Jamaal of the Arabic letterings, yet some of our scholars refuses to handle this beautiful miracle is truly devastating. But then again, there is no wisdom to the unsteady. For the aql' which yields to roving senses carries away his knowledge as the wind carries away a ship in the ocean. Fools dwells in ignorance yet imagining themselves wise and learned go round and round in crooked ways, like the blind leading the blind, so I have learned from the wise. When one knows Truth on earth, that is the liberation of the soul. If one knows not Truth on earth, such is a huge and great loss for his lost soul.
The term, “signs for men who are wise” mentioned in the Holy Quran is fundamental and need to be contemplated and pondered a lot, and without knowledge and insight into the beauty of Hisab Al Jamaal of the Arabic alphabet, and the mathematical miracles of the Holy Quran, the further dimensions of its meaning, reason and purpose will forever remain hidden.
"And if they argue with thee O' Muhammad, say: I have surrendered my purpose to Allah and (so have) those who follow me" Surah Al-i-Imraan, 85
KNOWLEDGE ARE OF TWO KINDS: INTELLECT AND INTELLIGENCE
“When the veil is lifted, you will see the mountains that you supposed to be fixed, passing by like clouds (QS 27 : 88). All things change constantly because each day He is upon some task (QS 55 : 29)” Ibn Arabi
“None of us there is but has a known station” Surah As Saaffaat, 164
But does man not know that knowledge are of two kinds?
"Blind eyes, to dote on shadows of things fair. Only at last to curse their fatal lure. Like Harut and Marut that Angel-pair who deemed themselves the purest of the pure. Our ignorance and self-will and vicious pride destroy the harmony of part and whole. In vain, we seek with lusts unmortified" Rumi
The lower world knowledge consists of grammar, ceremonial, data, logic, evidence-based information, whilst the higher world knowledge is that by which truth, which is extremely subtle, is revealed from the Source of all created things who is Omnipotent, Omniscient, Omnipresent. Like a caterpillar having come to an end of a beautiful butterfly soaring its wings to reach out to the next abode, so is the self having come to an end and shed all ignorance to reach out to a new level of existence.
"Ye surely have to travel stage by stage" Surah Al Inshiqaq, 19
"Amid these whirlpools, the ship can only pass through a founder" Rumi
